Survivor and a Supporter
Julie’s life story would not be complete without her experience as a breast cancer survivor. She revealed here breast cancer battle in 2015 while talking to Hello Magazine. Her family didn’t have any prior history with cancer so she had never expected to suffer from the disease. After a request from her husband, she got a mammogram which showed that she confirmed she had the cancer. The couple wasted no time in getting Julie the proper treatment that she needed to recover. She has now been cancer-free for more than five years.
A good story is worth telling a thousand times and she continues to tell it to inspire other women to stay strong while dealing with the disease.

Her husband, Todd is a successful real estate broker but he had some issues and went into debt. The debt was so much that it caused him to file for bankruptcy. The debt issues didn’t appear until their TV show aired. It is rumored that the debt was made up just to have a topic for their show’s storylines.

Reporter confirmed that on the Miss South Carolina website, in the 'Hall of Fame' sections for both adult and teen entrants, there is no Julie Hughes (her maiden name) listed. It seemed like a petty thing to point out but Julie might have an enemy from her past that is jealous of her recent success.
A secret detail came out about her previous marriage before she met Todd. It had been a top secret in her life until her previous husband’s sister came out and disclosed who she was married to. According to the woman, Julie was married to her brother, Kenneth Wayne Childress, on March 15, 1991. The two were young lovers and fell in love after knowing each other from high school. After they split, Julie went on to marry Todd who was also getting out of his own relationship.
