Kate Snow is a very talented and beautiful woman who is known for her work as a talented and outspoken journalist for NBC.
Upbringing Kate was born on the 10th of June, 1969 in Bangor, Maine. She was born as an only child to a working class parents. She comes from a normal middle class American family. The family moved to the eastern part of New York when Kate was still just a 6 month old baby. Her father Robert James Snow was an anthropologist who later became a professor at Pennsylvania State University and her mother worked as an English teacher for kids but also taught dancing. As a child, Kate also took an interest in dancing but slowly her passion and interests changed.
Kate loved growing up in New York where she studied at Preston High School. She was a popular student because she was a cheerleader. When it came to her studies, she was an average student but she was actively involved in extracurricular activities like dancing, cheerleading and a few sports too. Cheerleading came natural to her because of her mom’s genetics.
In 1991, she graduated from Cornell University, where she studied and majored in Communications. At Cornell, she became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and worked in the college's news programs and radio programs. In 2002, she obtained a degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. After graduating college successfully, she applied to the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service.
Broadcasting Career As a famous anchor for NBC news, she has reported on many important events and given her analysis on predictions and outcomes. She has hosted shows like NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, Dateline NBC and Weekend Today.
She obtained her first experience of working as a reporter on TV when she was employed by the KOAT-TV channel station from 1995 to 1998. Before she got her big break on TV, she worked for the NBC and NPR radio stations. In 2002, she continued her career as a reporter at the WVRB channel. Working for ABC was a huge boost to her confidence, she gained much fame and success with her work on their flagship show. During the 2008 presidential election, she was assigned to cover the Democratic Party and she usually followed Senator Hillary Clinton. Since 2011, Kate Snow has worked as a news anchor for “The Today Show”, a news morning TV show broadcasted by NBC. In a period between 2011 and 2013, she was a reporter at the “Rock Center with Brian Williams”. Since 2013, she has worked as a national correspondent at NBC News. In 2015, she started to work as a Sunday anchor for “NBC Nightly News” and as an anchor for “MSNBC Live.” She was proud to take charge of Dateline NBC, a talk show which features many iconic figures from politics, media and sports.
Life as a Reporter Since she has always been a student of the journalism game, the changes in the industry have not gone unrecognized by her. She talked to WWD about how much journalism has changed before all the news went from the traditional format of print to the digital world, “A lot of my work now goes out not just on TV but also on digital. And it has to, because we are busy people. How many people are home at 6:30 to sit down in the old-fashioned way and watch the way my parents watched Walter Cronkite? I mean, we know that doesn’t happen anymore. There is clearly a double standard in life, and certainly on television. In life, we are judged on our dress when we go to a wedding and your husband is wearing the same boring black suit he wears to every wedding. On TV, that’s accentuated.”
Snow does not want to get called out for not being fashionable so she is very aware and conscious of her appearance. She is not vain like her high school days as a cheerleader but she tries to to work on her appearance because of her public visibility. She understands that she not only represents herself but the network and show she works on, “I don’t know if I should admit this to this crowd but I’ve started doing Rent the Runway.”
Snow does not let the stress of looking good weight too heavily on her. She knows that she is not a model or actress but she still tries to care a little bit. The real focus for her is to break the news and interview people who the public care about. She claimed that one of her toughest interviews was with former United States President Bill Clinton. She got the chance to be the first journalist to interview him after his wife and presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton lost the 2008 presidential nomination to Barack Obama. She was brave and asked Bill Clinton about the rumors and claims that he had played the “race card” during the primaries and rallies. It was not a friendly conversation and ended up being very combative, ”It got very heated. By the end of it he was standing on my foot.”
Snow tries to present a strong aura but even she can be broken down by sad stories, “The most difficult story I ever had to report on was the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. I arrived on the scene as state troopers were still escorting parents from the school after they had been told their child had been killed and then having to report the story over the next four days. That was probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do.”
