Kendis Gibson is a broadcast journalist who works as a reporter and anchor for ABC News and a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. Kendis Gibson was born on September 6, 1978, in Belize City; his father, Alrick Gibson, was as skilled craftsman and cabinet maker. Hortense Gibson, his mother, was known for providing unconditional love for Kendis and his six brothers. The family immigrated to the United States in the late 1980’s. Kendis Gibson earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the State University of New York at Oswego, which is on the shore of Lake Ontario in New York.
Gibson’s career started at the NBC station in Rochester, New York. He worked at the station for three years before joining WTXF in Philadelphia as the morning anchor and reporter. Kendis Gibson won two Emmy Awards during his time at WTXF, for Outstanding News Reporting and for Sports Feature. He was hired by WNBC NewsChannel in New York to be a lead reporter. Kendis was one of the first reporters on scene at the World Trade Center on 9/11. He joined CNN and CNN Headline News in January of 2002 as an entertainment anchor and worked there for three years. Kendis Gibson joined ABC News in 2013.
