Kyle Edmund is a British professional tennis player who was born on January 8, 1995, in Johannesburg, South Africa to his father Steven and his mother Denise. Although he was born in South Africa, Edmund moved with his family to Britain when he was three-years-old. He spent his early years growing up in the village of Tickton in East Riding of Yorkshire. Edmund's parents financed his career in tennis until he was sponsored by the LTA through Aegon.
Edmund first pursued cricket and swimming but at age 10 he pursued tennis after receiving lessons at the David Lloyd Racquet and Fitness Club in Hull. Edmund attended Pocklington School and Beverley Grammar School. At the age of 14, Edmund moved with his training partner John Black to train at Win Tennis at the National Sports Centre in Bisham Abbey, Berkshire. By the time he was 17, Edmund was training at the Lawn Tennis Association’s National Training Centre in Roehampton under coach Colin Beecher. He went on to become an Australian Open semi-finalist and is only the sixth British man to play in a major singles semi-final. In the 2012 US Open and the 2013 French Open, Edmund won two junior Grand Slam doubles titles with his partner Frederico Ferreira Silva.
