Diaz was born in Scotia, New York in the year 1975. In 1996, she won the Eastern Women's Championship and made it to the quarterfinals in 1996 U.S women’s Amateur. She was a business student at Wake Forest University and was the Female Athlete of the Year in 1997. Laura won the 1995 North-South Championship (amateur) and 1996 Eastern Championship.
She became a professional in 1997 and spent playing three years in the Futures Tour where she scored tournament wins, three in a row. She also played at the European Ladies Tour where she was a rookie in 1998. She has played the Solheim Cup four times (2002, 2005, 2003, and 2007). Her LPGA tour wins include Welch's/Circle K Championship played in 2002 and LPGA Corning Classic in 2002.

She gives credit to her father, Ron Philo for supporting her career. She got married to Kevin Diaz in Nov 2000. Laura has a son Robert in 2006 and also has a daughter Lily who was born in 2010. Her hobbies are shopping, going to movies, spending time with friends and family and running. It was made public that Laura had undergone a plastic surgery; however, it was not the golfer Laura but the T.V anchor Laura who had undergone plastic surgery.

· In 2011, at the Wal-Mart Arkansas Championship which was presented by P&G, best finish was a tie for 38th
· In 2010, she tied for fifth at the LPGA tour championship.
· In 2009, best finish was for a tie at 26th at the SBS open. She also finished for 26th at HSBC Women's Champions and Honda LPGA Thailand.
· In 2008, the best finish was at a tie for the second position at the SBS open in Turtle Bay.
· In 2007, the best finish was at a tie for third at Safeway International by Coca-Cola and at Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic by Kroger. She crossed her $4 million earnings mark with a tie for fourth in the Canadian Women’s Open.
