Lonnie William Quinn is most notably a national lead weather anchor, and actor born on August 9, 1963. Currently, he is the chief weathercaster of CBS 2 News at 5, 6 and 11 weekdays. He also serves as the national weather anchor for “CBS This Morning” Saturday.
He grew up in Cheshire, Connecticut, in a fairly large family that included 6 brothers and sisters.
Quinn went on to study at Boston College, a school which has an admission rate of only 29%, indicating that he is quite smart. He graduated from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in communication. Furthermore, as proof that he is a man of various talents, he also was a member of the Boston swim team while attending. He also holds a degree in meteorology, and to be more specific, a Federal Aviation Administration certificate. He is said to have a great interest in meteorology and works very hard on improving his skills on meteorology related sectors.
Career and Awards
After college Quinn then went on to join the local station WVIR situated in Charlottesville, Virginia. Initially, he worked as a cameraman. Later, he was promoted and he would go on to report and anchor the weekend weathercasts. He was an evening news anchor and weekend weather anchor there. While in Charlottesville, Quinn covered stories related to the Thomas Jefferson/Sally Hemings controversy and the famous baby switch at the University of Virginia hospital. He also reported extensively on the rising political career of Emily Couric before her unfortunate death in October 2001.He also went on to work for WADA-LP, WQMZ-FM and also for WVAO
Quinn is the winner of 14 Emmy’s, fighting fiercely for the ‘Best Weather Anchor’ position and winning it in the years 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011 and 2010. Lonnie joined CBS 2 in April 2007. He came to serve at WCBS after a 5-year run at WTVJ, a NBC owned station in Miami, where he was a weather anchor for 'Today in South Florida', where he also won an Emmy for "Best On-Air Talent.". His stint in Miami, FL was a turning point in Quinn’s career. Not only was he promoted to full time weather anchor, but also allowed to develop his own, unique style. Quinn has always been a fan of the weather and he hates the idea of a boring weathercast. His goal always is to give the viewers the information they need in an engaging and entertaining way. Quinn feels that if he is excited by the weather, then the viewers should be too!
He is well known for his coverage of hurricanes, and was seen working with Max Mayfield, best known as the director (former) of The National Hurricane Centre, during 2005, one of the most predominant seasons of hurricanes in the United States.

He also became famous, for his well detailed and resilient coverage of hurricane Irene in 2011. In 2014, he received a lot of media attention because of Fox’s Media Buzz report pointing fingers at him, accusing Quinn of copying his word for word from their show, on a report about a lightning strike. They accused him that the words were originally said by another local TV Station.

Lonnie Quinn also had a brief acting stint in the late 1980’s and the early 1990’s. These experiences allowed him to develop a comfort in front of the camera which helped him to perform exceptionally in local and national broadcasting. His face can be best recognized from his portrayal of Will Cooney, a character on the tv soap opera ‘All My Children’, which aired on ABC in the years 1988 – 1990. He garnered the nomination for the Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Male Newcomer: Daytime in 1990. Another role of his is the character Rich Landers, which he played on ‘Santa Barbara’ a soap opera that aired on NBC, in the years 1992 – 1993. He also made a brief appearance as himself in the 2 episodes of the soap opera ‘As the World Turns’ in 2009. During his time as an actor he appeared in numerous movies and television series including ‘The New Hollywood Squares’, ‘Holiday in Bryant Park’, ‘As the World Turns’, ‘Saturday Early Show’, ‘The Early Show’, ‘CBS News Up to the Minute’, ‘CBS This Morning: Saturday’, ‘All My Children’, ‘Santa Barbara’, ‘Kiss of a Killer’, ‘In a Moment of Passion’, ‘Dexter Dickie’, ‘Elementary’ and others.

His salary, alongside other CBS personalities, is not known, as CBS does not publish reports, but it can be assumed that he is getting a salary upwards of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year ($ 250,000 a year)

He has been married to Sharon Quinn for nearly ten years, after the couple joined hands and got married in 2007. In 2012, the couple were blessed with their first bundle of joy, a daughter, Lily Quinn. Their happiness doubled in June 2015 after they became proud parents to another daughter, Savannah, who weighed 9 pounds at birth. His son Nate, from a previous relationship, is currently studying at Cornell University and previously attended The Bronx High School of Science . The couple are currently living in Manhattan along with their three children. However, they all live together and share a beautiful bond

Outside of the weather, Quinn loves to report a good story. His belief is every other station in town will most likely be covering the same event…you had better come up with some way to make your storytelling stand out. He is a proud winner of an Emmy award for best on-air talent.
