Maura West was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on April 27, 1972. She grew up in the town of Ludlow Massachusetts and also attended Boston University before graduation. She uses her mother’s maiden name, West instead of <a href="/biography/maura-west">Snyder</a>. Maura has mentioned that she like the name better, plus it was a better sounding name for entertainment purposes. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, in 1995. Maura felt that she had a lot of great education during her formative years and it has given her the ambition and faith in herself to pursue all the great challenges that she has ended up conquering over the decades.

As her biography reveals, it was at college here that the casting director of As The World Turns spotted Maura in the University’s college production she was part of. Perhaps because they felt the same way, the producers, after casting her for less than a year in September 2010, let her go in May 2011. Despite being let go in the role, Maura was soon cast the soap opera General Hospital in the role of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ava_Jerome">Ava Jerome</a> in 2013. She has mentioned she felt more at home at the new soap opera and it was a more fitting character for her and the way she portrays her roles.

Maura was married to Jonathan Knight, who was a director at the time. The couple was married from 1995-1999 & had a child named Benjamin Knight in 1996. The husband-wife duo filed for divorce in 1999. Maura’s former co-star <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_DeFreitas">Scott DeFreitas</a> (Andy of As The World Turns) proposed to her in 2000 in a unique way. It was at the Yankee Stadium over the scoreboard and being a big fan of the Yankees, Maura accepted and has mentioned that she loved the way he proposed. The couple got married in January 2000 & has 4 children Joseph, Katherine, Basil & Birdie. She gave birth to her son Joseph on the TV Show, A Baby Story (1999). In 2014 she made her first appearance in a feature film production. It was a film called Come Back to Me, a film based on the adaptation of the novel The Resurrectionist.
