Born on January 16, 1971, in Alameda situated in California, United States, Meri Brown’s birth name was Meri Barber. Initially, Meri Brown was studying to be a psychologist, but following the controversies surrounding her show she had to quit. When Meri was just 19 years old, she married Kody Brown, an advertising salesman in the year 1990 and they then went on to star in the TLC reality series Sister Wives in the year 2010. The show revolves around a polygamist family of the advertising salesman Kody Brown and his four wives. Kody Brown and his four wives have a total of 18 children. Meri holds American nationality and belongs to White ethnicity. Her father's name is Bill Barber and mother's name is Bronnie Ahlstrom. She has six siblings, four sisters- Teresa Barber, Rebekah Barber, Elaine Barber, Deborah Barber and two brothers- Adam Barber and Marc William Barber.

Meri and Kodi met each other in 1989 when Kody’s sister introduced Meri to him. After just two months of knowing each other, Kody proposed to Meri, which she accepted. They then went on to marry each other four months later on April 21, 1990, when she was just 19 and Kody was 22. After struggling with infertility for years, Meri and Kody welcomed their first child, a daughter named Mariah Brown on July 29,1995.

The family along with all the kids initially lived in Lehi, which is situated in Utah, center but later on shifted to Las Vegas in the year 2011. Less than two years ago the family was rocked to its core when Meri was catfished by a woman pretending to be a man, and she got emotionally entangled. It has taken some time for Meri to come to terms with her daughters sexuality. But in the end she has accepted it and realized this does not mean Meri will never have grandkids. Some of which suggest she has had a falling out with the rest of the Brown family and is now living separately away from Kody and the other sister wives. The family has been seen appearing at various events and gatherings, but Meri was suspiciously absent. This is leading many to believe that she has decided to go her separate ways and live her life without the her ex-husband and the other wives. Adding fuel to the fire, there were rumors that Meri may have had an affair while she was still with Kody Brown in their marriage. The rumors also state that she may still be with this affair partner and may be dating him.
