Michael Gambino played college baseball at Boston College from 1997 to 2000. Following his collegiate career, he signed with the Boston Red Sox as an undrafted free agent. Over two seasons in minor league baseball, Gambino posted a batting line of .235/.306/.298, registering 32 runs and 29 RBIs across 77 games.
After retiring as a player, Gambino began his coaching journey. From 2003 to 2005, he served as an assistant coach at Boston College. He later joined Virginia Tech as an assistant coach from 2007 to 2010. Additionally, he worked as an area scout for the Detroit Tigers, further broadening his baseball experience.
On July 19, 2010, Michael Gambino was named head coach of the Boston College Eagles baseball team. His first season in 2011 concluded with a 17–33 record. Despite early challenges, Gambino has remained a steady presence at the helm of the program. As of the most recent figures, he holds an overall coaching record of 177–248 at Boston College.
