Nancy was born in Torrance, California, on 6th day of January in 1958. She went to school at Goddard Highs, where she played for a boy’s team because they don’t have a Girl team at that time. To the surprise of all she helped them win two major champion ships.
Lopez was not having any sports back ground at home and was a gifted talent, which drew the attention of her father and he presented her a set of golf clubs, which she loved the most. She was 8 then. At the age of 9 she became winner of Pee-wee tournament and at 10 she won state champion ship. Her father became so impressed with the child that he made a hole on the back of house full of sand, to keep her in practice.
She turned to be best junior player of the country. She won Mexico Women’s Amateur When she was of 12. Coming years she again won USGA Junior Girls Championship, two times, Western Junior three times.
Nancy participated in U.S. Women’s Open in amateur category in 1975 and finished second in a tie. She joined Association of Inter collegiate Athletics for Women National Champion ship and also became member of U.S. Curtis cup and other Amateur teams. She was selected Female athlete of the year at her University of Tulsa and also All-American in 1976.
In the mid of her studies, Nancy decided to give 100 percent to the game and left college. She shot to fame immediately. In the year 1977 when she started as a junior Nancy came in lime light by coming runner-up in her first three tournaments. She was praised with LPGA debutant of the year title. As a starter she won nine tournaments in a row.
She created a record when she won five direct tournaments; one of them was LPGA Championship. It was her first big shot. She was one of biggest earner in 1978,079 and 85. She was the winner again in 1985 and 1989, winning LPGA Championship again.
In U.S. those days apartheid was at peak and she started facing it, because of her roots. It was not very digestible to others that a Mexican race player was doing so well, she was started being criticized. She was never shattered by these things and won many titles and became the LPGA hall of the Fame winner, at the youngest age of all time.
Now she had become most famous and successful athlete of country. She always credited her father for her success and the place she reached.
Nancy was married to Ray Night in 1982. Ray was also a sport person and played with majors for 13 years. Nancy got her own attire line for golf and mark golf ball. She was born in U.S. but her father migrated from Mexico at a tender age.
Nancy won LPGA tour 48 times while winning others 4 times. Her best results were Kraft Nabisco Championship T-3 player in 1995.
She won LPGA championship in 1978, 1985, 1989. She also won U.S. Women’s open 1977, 1989, 1997. She was T2 player in 1975.
Nancy was regarded as a strong sports personality in the country and considered as an icon for many.
