Olly Murs, an English singer-songwriter, television presenter, and actor, was born on May 14, 1984, in Witham, Essex, United Kingdom. He is the son of Vicky-Lynn and Pete Murs and has a twin brother, Ben Murs, as well as a sister, Fay Murs. Murs attended Howbridge Junior School in Witham and later studied at Notley High School in Braintree, Essex, where he played on the school’s football team.
From 2006 to 2008, Murs played semi-professionally for Isthmian Division One North side Witham Town. His aspirations in football were cut short by an injury, prompting a career change. He went on to work as a recruitment consultant at Prime Appointments in Witham. During this period, Murs also performed in a local cover band called Small Town Blaggers, further developing his interest in music and entertainment.
In 2007, Murs first appeared on television as a contestant on the game show "Deal or No Deal"—a show he returned to in 2012 for a second appearance. However, his breakthrough came in 2009 when he auditioned for the sixth series of the reality talent competition The X Factor. Performing Stevie Wonder’s "Superstition," his audition received praise from all judges, notably earning favorable remarks from Simon Cowell, often regarded as the most difficult judge to impress.
Following his success on The X Factor, Murs launched his music career and released his debut single "Please Don’t Let Me Go" in 2010, not 2020 as previously stated. The song debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart, marking his entry into mainstream success. Since then, Murs has released several studio albums, consistently achieving chart success in the UK and beyond.
Among his discography, standout singles include "Dance with Me Tonight," "Troublemaker" featuring Flo Rida, and "Wrapped Up" featuring Travie McCoy. Although "You Don’t Know Love" is one of his more recognized singles, it was released in July 2016—not as an album in 2018. The song was part of his fifth studio album, "24 Hrs," which was released in 2016.
Beyond music, Murs has cemented his place in British television, co-hosting The X Factor in 2015 and appearing on various entertainment programs throughout his career. His charm and versatility have earned him a respected spot in both the music and television industries.
