Patty Jenkins is an American screenwriter and film director whose credits include the direction of the films Monster and Wonder Woman. Patty Jenkins was born July 24, 1971, in Victorville, California; she is the daughter of a decorated air force fighter jet pilot and an environmental scientist. In 1993, Patty received an undergraduate degree from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. In 2000, Patty was awarded her master’s degree in directing from the American Film Institute’s AFI Conservatory.
In 2003, Patty Jenkins wrote and directed the crime drama film Monster which detailed the life of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a former prostitute who was executed for killing six men. Patty won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature for her work on Monster. Patty Jenkins has always had an affinity for super heroes so directing Wonder Woman was a role seemingly made for her. Patty Jenkins is married to the former fire fighter and author Sam Sheridan, who penned the book, entitled A Fighter’s Heart. Patty and Sam have a son. The family lives in Santa Monica, California. Wonder Woman 1984, Jenkins next film, is scheduled to be released by Warner Brothers Pictures in 2020.
