<a href="/biography/penelope-cruz">Penélope Cruz Sánchez</a> commonly known as Penelope Cruz was born on April 28, 1974, in Spain. From a very young age, she was inclined towards acting and this led to her being signed by an agent at the age of 15. At the age of 16, she made her debut in the feature film Jamon which was a very critically acclaimed film. She kept on doing movies in late 2000 such as Vanilla Sky, Women on Top, The Girl of Your Dreams and open our eyes.

She started being recognized as a very good actress after doing the movie Vanilla Sky for which she was praised a lot. In 2002 she did a comedy movie called Waking up in Reno, a year later she did a thriller Gothika. She also did a Christmas movie called Noel in 2004. In 2006 she did Volver for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe and the Academy Awards as well. This was the point when she had become one of the best actresses in the movie industry. She, however, did not just stop there as she did Nine in 2009 for which she was again nominated for the Academy Awards and the Golden Globe.

In 2008 she won the Academy Awards for best-supporting actress in the movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She also got her star on the Hollywood walk of fame making her the first Spanish actress to do so.

Her life, however, did not start as an actress, she had to climb her way to the top. She was born to a mechanic father and a hairdresser mother which made a very middle-class family. She has a sister and a brother along with another half-sister Salma. Her earlier days of acting were while playing with her friends when she used to act like a totally different person. She later came to be known as the best actress of the generation thanks to all her learning methods when she was a <a href="/biography/penelope-cruz">kid</a>.

Penelope Cruz came into the Hollywood scene around 2001 and was at the peak of her career at 2007 when she was recognized for the work that she did. She has been awarded the best-supporting actress by BAFTA and also went on to win other awards besides being nominated for a lot of movies. In 2011 she appeared in her biggest film to date Pirates of Caribbean: On Stranger Tides which earned over $1billion in worldwide theaters making it one of the highest earning movies of all time. She injured her feet while shooting a stunt scene for the movie.
