Robert Blake is an American actor who was born on September 18, 1933, in Nutley, New Jersey. He was born Michael James Gubitosi to his mother Elizabeth Cafone and father Giacomo Gubitosi. As a child, he began acting at an early age and was known by his stage name Mickey Gubitosi. His first role was as Toto in the 1939 MGM movie "Bridal Suite". Blake then began appearing in MGM's short series such as "The Little Rascals". Between 1939 and 1944 he appeared in over 40 shorts before becoming the series' lead character. In 1942, Black played Tooky Stedman in "Andy Hardy's Double Life". In 1944, he appeared in "Our Gang" once again in the series final short, "Dancing Romeo".
Black went on to become the recipient of the "Young Artist Foundation" award and the "Lifetime Achievement" Award for his performances in "Our Gang". As an adult, Black was drafted into the Army in 1950. He returned to Southern California and began working on his acting career once again. He went on to become a well-known Hollywood actor known for several notable roles in movies and television. Black Married Bonnie Lee Bakley in 1999, but in 2002 he was arrested and charged with Bakley's murder. He was eventually acquitted of the murder from a lack of evidence after going to trial. He remains a free man to this day and is currently retired from his acting career.
