Shane McMahon is an American businessman and professional wrestler widely recognized as a minority owner of WWE and the son of Vince McMahon, the well-known wrestling promoter and former chairman of WWE.
Shane Brandon McMahon was born on January 15, 1970, in Gaithersburg, Maryland, to Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon. He grew up alongside his sister, Stephanie McMahon, in a family deeply rooted in the professional wrestling industry. Shane attended Greenwich High School in Greenwich, Connecticut. He went on to earn a degree in communications from Boston University, where he also studied business.
Shane’s involvement with WWE began at an early age. As a teenager, he worked in WWE’s merchandise department and later stepped into the ring as a referee under the stage name Shane Stevens. He officiated several major events during the late 1980s and early 1990s, including WrestleMania VI, the 1991 Royal Rumble, and WrestleMania VIII.
In the late 1990s, Shane McMahon transitioned into a regular on-screen performer for WWF (now WWE). He became known for his active participation in storylines involving his family members—his father Vince, mother Linda, and sister Stephanie. Shane gained a reputation for his willingness to take high-risk moves and engage in intense wrestling matches. Notably, his participation in the WWE helped bolster audience engagement during the company’s famed "Attitude Era."
In October 2009, Shane McMahon announced his departure from WWE to pursue business opportunities outside the family company. He later served as CEO of China Broadband Inc., which focused on multimedia and entertainment markets in Asia. After a seven-year hiatus from professional wrestling, Shane made a surprise return to WWE on February 22, 2016, reestablishing his presence during major events and behind the scenes.
Shane McMahon resumed his in-ring activity upon returning to WWE, becoming a key fixture in several storylines. One notable match took place at SummerSlam in August 2019, where he faced Kevin Owens. During the bout, McMahon attempted a running elbow but accidentally struck Elias, who was ringside as a special enforcer. Owens leveraged the moment, executing a low blow followed by a Stunner to secure the pinfall victory. Despite the loss, the match reflected Shane’s continued embrace of physically demanding performances.
Shane McMahon is married to Marissa Mazzola, a film producer and former television host. The couple, who were childhood friends, wed on September 14, 1996. Marissa co-founded Kamala Films in 2005, a production company based in Los Angeles. Prior to that, she served as WWE’s director of public relations.
The couple has three sons: Declan James, born February 13, 2004; Kenyon “Kenny” Jess, born March 26, 2006; and Rogan Henry, born January 20, 2010. All three boys have made brief public appearances, most memorably when they accompanied Shane to the ring during his match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32—a moment symbolizing the McMahon family's multi-generational ties to WWE.
As a member of the McMahon family, Shane McMahon's contributions to WWE span various roles, from executive leadership to in-ring performer. Known for his ambitious stunts and creative involvement, his presence in the company helped shape the entertainment brand during pivotal decades. Though never a full-time wrestler, his athleticism and commitment to compelling storytelling continue to resonate with wrestling fans.
