Thomas Müller was born in 1989 in the town of Weilheim in Oberbayern, Germany. From a young age, he showed a passion for football, playing for local club TSV Pahl. At the age of 10, he began traveling over 50 kilometers to join Bayern Munich’s youth academy in 2000. Progressing steadily through the system, he was a key figure in Bayern’s Under-19 team, helping them finish as runners-up in the Under-19 Bundesliga.
In 2008, Müller began his senior career with Bayern Munich’s reserve team. He made his debut in the Regionalliga, substituting for Stephan Fürstner in a match against SpVgg Unterhaching, where he also scored. That season, he made two more appearances in the Regionalliga, while continuing to play for the youth side.
Müller made his breakthrough into Bayern Munich’s first team during the 2009–2010 season under coach Louis van Gaal. He featured in every Bundesliga match that season as Bayern won both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal, and reached the UEFA Champions League final. His versatility allowed him to play various attacking roles, including center forward, second striker, and attacking midfielder.
In the 2012–2013 season, Müller scored 23 goals and was instrumental in Bayern Munich’s historic treble win—clinching the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Champions League titles. Known for his exceptional work rate, stamina, smart positioning, and teamwork, Müller has remained a consistent and valuable player for the club.
Thomas Müller’s international debut for Germany came in 2010. He was called up for the FIFA World Cup held in South Africa that year, where he made a remarkable impression. In six appearances, he scored five goals and provided three assists, helping Germany secure third place. His performances earned him the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer and the FIFA World Cup Best Young Player award.
Before joining the senior squad, Müller played at various youth levels for Germany, starting with the Under-16 team in 2004. In 2009, he joined the Under-21 national team and made his debut in a 3–1 friendly loss against Turkey. Over his time with the Under-21s, Müller earned six caps and scored one goal.
Often described as an attacking all-rounder, Müller possesses the adaptability to fit into different offensive roles. While rising through Bayern’s youth system, he primarily played as a midfielder but developed his game to become a critical figure in more advanced positions thanks to his intelligent movements and goal involvement.
