<p>Tom Llamas is an American <a href="/biography/tom-llamas">journalist</a> who was born on July 2, 1979, in Miami, Florida, in the United States. Llamas' parents were Cuban immigrants who fled to America as political refugees. Llamas attended the Belen Jesuit Preparatory School before graduating from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana with a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Drama, and Speech. While attending university, Llamas was a <a href="/biography/tom-llamas">member</a> of the LA Gamma chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon. After graduating in May of 2001, Llamas began his career in 2000 with the NBC News Specials United. Later that year, Llamas moved to MSNBC where he covered politics until 2005.</p>

<p>He eventually moved to NBC's WTVJ in Miami and then on to WNBC-TV in New York. He became a general-assignment reporter for NBC News in 2009. Llamas was hired by ABC News as a New York-based correspondent in September of 2014. While he was working for WNBC-TV in 2008, Llamas earned an Emmy Award for "Best Anchor" and "Best Hard News Story". He also earned a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for his coverage of Hurricane Sandy. Llamas also covered the tumultuous 2016 U.S. Presidential Campaign and spent a year covering and criticizing Republican candidates.</p>
