Trish Regan (full name Tricia Ann Regan-McEachern) was born on December 13, 1972, in Hampton, New Hampshire. She attended Phillips Exeter Academy, where she graduated with honors. As a high school student, she won first place in the Harvard Musical Association's competition, showcasing her talent in classical music.
Before pursuing a career in journalism, Regan studied opera and vocal performance in Graz, Austria, as well as at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She later enrolled at Columbia University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in American history in 2000.
In 1993, Regan was crowned Miss New Hampshire and went on to represent her state in the Miss America 1994 pageant. Her interest in communication and performance dovetailed into a broadcasting career that began shortly thereafter.
Regan began her journalism career at CBS News, where she worked as a correspondent for the CBS Evening News and other CBS programs. During her time there, she reported extensively on political and economic developments in Latin America. Notably, she covered terrorism financing in South America, including a significant investigation into the Tri-Border region, a known haven for illicit finance activity near the intersection of Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil.
Her investigative reporting earned her an Emmy nomination in 2007 for her coverage of connections between the Tri-Border region and Islamic terrorist organizations. At CNBC, she continued her focus on global affairs, reporting on the link between piracy and terrorist groups from Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, one of the more volatile zones in South America.
After leaving CNBC in March 2011, Regan joined Bloomberg Television later that year. She became the anchor of the financial news program Street Smart. During this era in her career, she also contributed economic analysis and reports to other major outlets, including NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, MSNBC, and The Chris Matthews Show. Her on-air experience included anchoring for a CBS-owned station in San Francisco, which further prepared her for national-level business journalism.
In March 2015, Fox Business Network announced Trish Regan would join the network as an anchor and markets reporter. Over her career, she has led in-depth reports on diverse topics ranging from U.S.–Russia relations—covered notably during a G8 summit in Germany—to Brazil's economic development and the prospective benefits of Canada's sub-Arctic oil sands exploration.
Regan received a nomination for a Best Documentary Emmy Award for her work on Against the Tide: The Battle for New Orleans, which investigated failures in the New Orleans levee system following Hurricane Katrina. The documentary also earned her a Gerald Loeb Award nomination, which recognizes excellence in business and financial journalism.
In addition to her broadcasting achievements, Regan authored the book Joint Ventures: Inside America's Almost Legal Marijuana Industry, released in April 2011. Accompanying the book was her CNBC documentary Marijuana USA, which became one of the most-watched specials in the network’s history. Despite her in-depth coverage of marijuana policy reform, Regan stated on her blog that she has never personally used marijuana or smoked a cigarette.
In 2001, Trish Regan married investment banker James A. Ben. The couple has three children and remains married. Regan has an estimated net worth of $12 million, derived from her work across several major networks including CBS, NBC, CNBC, Bloomberg, and Fox Business Network. Details regarding her current salary are not publicly available.
