Veronica Webb was born on February 23, 1965, in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Raised in a modest household, Webb was drawn to both fashion magazines and comic books during her early years. She initially aspired to become an animator. She attended the Detroit Waldorf School and graduated in 1983. Later, she moved to New York City to pursue studies in design.
While shopping at a housewares boutique in New York, Webb was discovered by a makeup artist who encouraged her to consider modeling. Inspired by this opportunity, she left school to pursue a modeling career. Her breakthrough came when she became a spokesmodel for Revlon, becoming the first African-American woman to hold an exclusive contract with a major cosmetics brand.
Webb made her film debut in Spike Lee's 1991 drama Jungle Fever, and went on to appear in other notable films such as Malcolm X, The Big Tease, and Someone Like You.... Her television credits include roles in popular shows like Becker, Just Shoot Me, Damon, and Clueless. She also had a role in the 2006 feature film Dirty Laundry.
As a model, Webb graced runways for renowned fashion designers including Todd Oldham, Isaac Mizrahi, Karl Lagerfeld, and Azzedine Alaïa. She also appeared in music videos for artists such as New Order and Scritti Politti, including “Round and Round” and “Technique.”
Beyond modeling and acting, Webb has contributed essays, columns, and articles to a range of publications including Interview Magazine, Panorama, The Sunday Times, Elle, Details, Paper Magazine, Esquire, and syndicated features via The New York Times Syndicate. She published a collection of autobiographical essays in 1998 titled Veronica Webb Sight: Adventures in the Big City, released by Miramax Books.
Webb has been actively involved in philanthropy, supporting organizations such as Product Red and LIFEBeat, which focuses on HIV/AIDS awareness. Her involvement with LIFEBeat stems from her personal connection to the AIDS crisis during her modeling career in 1980s New York. She is also affiliated with the RPM Nautical Foundation, a connection that originated through her former husband's work in underwater archaeology.
Veronica Webb lived in Paris for a year, during which she learned French with the help of designer Azzedine Alaïa. She served as a co-host on the television show Bravo’s Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style and was appointed to the Eucerin Skin First Council to promote skin health awareness. In addition to her media presence, Webb initiated a business mentoring program that gave recipients the opportunity to receive direct mentorship from her.
Webb married George Robb in 2002, and together they had two children. The couple divorced in 2009. She is currently engaged to Chris Delgatto, founder and chairman of the Del Gatto Luxury Group. Although she began her life in humble circumstances, Veronica Webb rose to significant success across multiple industries, exemplifying perseverance and passion.
