Donald Zackary “Zack” Greinke was born on October 21, 1983, in Orlando, Florida, to Donald and Marsha Greinke. He has one younger brother, Luke, who was also involved in baseball. Luke Greinke played college baseball at Auburn University and was later drafted by the New York Yankees. However, due to injuries, Luke eventually stepped away from his baseball career. Zack attended Apopka High School in Florida, where he developed a strong interest in sports from an early age and was active in Little League. In 1999, while still a teenager, he helped lead his team to the Senior League World Series.
At Apopka High School, Zack Greinke excelled as both a hitter and a pitcher. He batted over .400 and hit 31 home runs during his high school career. Initially used as a relief pitcher during his sophomore and junior years, he transitioned to a starting pitcher as a senior. In 2002, he was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year for his outstanding performance. That same year, he participated in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Classic, where he impressed scouts and coaches with his talent against some of the top hitters in the country.
Greinke was selected in the first round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft by the Kansas City Royals. Although he had received a scholarship offer from Clemson University, he chose to sign with the Royals, receiving a $2.5 million signing bonus. He made his Major League debut in 2004 in a game against the Oakland Athletics. Over the next several seasons, he developed into one of the league’s top pitchers. In 2010, the Royals traded him to the Milwaukee Brewers, marking the beginning of a new phase in his career.
Greinke made his debut for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2011, appearing in the second game of a doubleheader. Midway through the 2012 season, the Brewers traded him to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He made his first start for the Angels on July 29, 2012. In December of that year, Greinke signed a six-year, $147 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent—a record-setting deal at the time for a right-handed pitcher.
During the 2015 National League Division Series, Greinke pitched in two games against the New York Mets. Shortly afterward, he opted out of the final three years of his Dodgers contract to become a free agent again. In December 2015, he signed a six-year contract worth $206 million with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Greinke made his debut for the Diamondbacks in 2016 at Chase Field in a game against the Colorado Rockies.
Zack Greinke is married to Emily Kuchar, a former cheerleader and beauty queen whom he met during high school. The couple has one son, Bode, born in 2015. Greinke’s estimated net worth is approximately $20 million, and he has earned a salary of up to $31 million per season at various stages of his career. Information about his life and career is accessible through several media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook.
