Gwendoline Christie is an English actress who was born on October 28, 1978, in Worthing, West Sussex, England, in the United Kingdom. Christie grew up in a hamlet near the South Downs and trained as a gymnast in her early years. She suffered a spine industry in gymnastics and decided to pursue acting in 2002. Before landing any major acting roles, Christie worked at a boutique in Brighton. She attended Drama Centre London and graduated in 2005. Christie was featured in a series of photographs taken by photographer Polly Borland who noticed her because of her height. She made her onscreen debut in a short film called "The Time Surgeon" in 2007. Her feature film debut came in 2009 when she landed a small role in the film "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus". Christie was cast as the warrior Brienne of Tarth in the second season of Game of Thrones in July of 2011.
Her character is an unusually tall and muscular woman who is a fan favorite and she was excited to play the role after reading the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels the show is based on. In 2015, Christie became even more famous when she landed a role in the Star Wars film "The Force Awakens" in 2015. Christie played the stormtrooper commander Captain Phasma and returned in the role for the next installment in the franchise, episode 8. Christie stands at 6 feet 3.25 inches tall and has been seeing a fashion designer named Giles Deacon since 2013.
