Howard Matthew Moses “Howie” Long was born in 06th January 1960 in Charleston Massachusetts, United States. After retirement from active Football career Howie at age of 56 years is currently a studio analyst for the Fox Sports coverage

Education

He started his education at Milford High School in Massachusetts where because of his career in football he was inducted in the school hall of fame. Howie was not only active player in football but a well rounded player who competed in track, played basketball and even set a record in shot put and discus. While in high school he was also named Scholastic Coach All-American team at his senior year.

Howie attended Villanova University where he played college football and was four year letterman. His exemplary skills in football saw him selected to play for Blue Gray Football Classic which named him the MVP in 1980. Long was active from his freshman years and by the time he was a senior he graduated having earned the title Northern Collegiate Heavyweight Champion while in Villanova.

Career

After being drafted to Oakland Raiders in the year 1981, he played very competitively and after 13 seasons he was awarded eight Pro Bowl selections for his exemplary performance in the team. His performance was mainly attributed to his size and strength possessed. During his career between 1983-1983 he was named three times as the first team All-Pro as well as second All-Pro two times between 1986-1989. For All-Madden teams he was selected twice in 1984-1985. Long was voted the NNFL Alumni Defensive lineman and also the NFLPA-AFC defensive lineman of the year. In the year 1986 he was number one defensive for AFC and was voted the Pro Bowl for four consecutive years. Howie remained active player in football for the team until his retirement in 1993.

Upon Retirement he started his acting career acting in movies, television shows and even the commercials. Some of films he acted are; Firestorm, Broken Arrow, 3000 miles to Graceland and That thing you do. Howie was also spokesman for Radio Shack as well as appeared in commercials for big companies like; Nike, Frito Lay, Coca-cola, Pepsi, Pizza Hut among others. Long is also studio analyst for Fox Networks NFL coverage. 

Awards

Long was awarded the Sports Emmy Award for outstanding sports personality in the year 1997. He was also names the Walter Camp man of the year in 2001 by the foundation.

Long is a staunch catholic believer and he is married to Diane Addonizo in 27TH June 1982 and their married was blessed with 3 sons. Christopher, Kyle and Howard Junior, two of his sons Chris and Kyle started playing football in college. Howie is dedicated to his career and has good relationship with his wife and sons.
