Iman Shumpert is an American professional basketball player who was born on June 26, 1990, in Oak Park, Illinois to his father Odis and his mother L'Tanya. From an early age, Shumpert expressed an interest in sports, particularly basketball. He attended Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School in Oak Park where he played on the same basketball team as Evan Turner, who would go on to become Shumpert's teammate in the NBA. He then went on to attend Oak Park and River Forest High School. While in high school, Shumpert was a first team all-state player and one of the country's top 30 seniors. Scout.com even rated Shumpert as number 15 among the country's top senior players.
During his high school basketball days, he took Oak Park and River Forest to three conference titles and was named MVP both in his junior year and in his senior year. After graduating from high school, Shumpert went on to attend Georgia Tech in 2008. Shumpert was Georgia Tech's fourth-leading scorer for the season and he averaged 10.5 points a game. In the 2011 NBA draft by the New York Knicks, Shumpert was the overall 17th pick. After playing for the New York Knicks, Shumpert went on to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2015 to 2018. In 2018, Shumpert was acquired by the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade that involved the Utah Jazz. He currently plays for the Sacramento Kings and has a wife named Teyana Taylor and a daughter named Iman Tayla Shumpert, Jr.
