Jade McCarthy was born on July 10, 1980, in Newton, Massachusetts. An avid sports enthusiast from a young age, she spent nearly a decade participating in competitive horse riding. Her early exposure to athletics helped shape her lifelong interest in sports media.
McCarthy attended Mount Holyoke College, initially intending to pursue a degree in politics. However, after attending a journalism seminar during her first semester, she developed a passion for broadcasting. Encouraged by mentors including her teacher, North Careen, and her godfather Richard, she shifted her focus to journalism.
McCarthy began her broadcasting career at WGGB-TV, an ABC affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts. She later moved on to WAFF in Huntsville, Alabama, and then to WCAU in Philadelphia. At WCAU, an NBC-owned station, she gained substantial recognition, contributing to Emmy Award-winning sports segments. Her articulate reporting style and strong grasp of sports narratives made her a cherished personality among local viewers.
In early 2010, Jade joined NESN (New England Sports Network) as a part-time host and reporter for SportsDesk. Her work eventually led to her own program, NESN Daily, which gained solid viewership in the New England area. She was widely credited with enhancing the quality and appeal of the show.
Despite her growing success, McCarthy left NESN in August 2011. The decision was influenced by her pregnancy and her husband Gordan Stead’s new job opportunity in Philadelphia. The move marked the beginning of a one-year professional hiatus.
