Jamaal Charles was born on 27th December in 1986 in the city of Port Arthur, which is located in the state of Texas. Sharon Charles, raised Jamaal alone with the help of her mother. When Jamaal was young, he had trouble reading and understanding things. Due to his inability to understand things and read properly, he was mocked and ridiculed by school friends and his cousins. Sharon, being an athlete herself taught the basics in sports and football.

At the age of 10, he got an opportunity to participate in Special Olympics. After participating in the events only he realized that he was good in athletics and running. He participated in different sports like athletics, football and basketball in his early days. He excelled particularly in football. He became the school's most valuable player in his junior year, taking his school team to quarterfinals in 5A Division cup. He had an excellent record of running 2051 yards which included 25 touchdowns in his junior year. He also continued his form to the senior year. He ran an impressive 2056 yards which included 25 touchdowns and became the most important player in the team. He was also the recipient of multiple awards. He was also part of athletics team and participated in 400m hurdles, 300m hurdles and 110m hurdles.

After finishing his high school, he joined the University of Texas which is located in Austin and participated in his college football team. His first season was not so impressive running only 878 yards which included 11 touchdowns. Though his team won the national championship, he was not happy with his performance. In his second season, he performed well but he had some issues with ball handling and he worked with his coach to resolve it.

In 2008, he was picked by the Chief's team which is based out of Kansas City in the NFL draft. He was picked as a backup for Larry Johnson. He played few games as a substitute and impressed everyone with his speed. He played in only 10 games in his second season, but he ran an impressive 1120 yards. He was a regular member of Chief's team in 2010 season. He had an impressive season running 1467 yards which included 5 touchdowns. Chief's team signed a 5-year contract with Charles for a impressive sum of $32.5 million dollars. He suffered an injury in 2011 season, which made him to sit on the bench for most of the season. His contract was extended for 2 more years in 2014 for $18.1 million dollars. He is one of the top paid athletes in NFL. He got injured once again in 2015 which ruled him out of the entire season. His current team is Kansas City Chief's.
