James started his career with Dandenong Cricket Club and he as later selected in the U -19 cricket team. He also got a chance to play in the world cup in 2008. James is known for his skills as a bowler and he holds several records in domestic cricket because of his commendable bowling skills. In 2011, it was reported that James was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders to play from their team in Indian Premier League. James was signed for 100 thousand dollars for the 2012 season of IPL.
