Jasmine Guy

Jasmine Guy was born on March 10, 1962 in Boston, Massachusetts. Her mother Jaye Rudolph was white and her dad William Guy was Afro-American. The birth of the colored child in America was a highly judgmental thing, but her parents decided to get married and to raise children together, which was the greatest proof of love.

When she was a kid, her family moved downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Jasmine received a decent education in the historic l School, which was later renamed North Atlanta High School, where her mother was teaching. Her father worked as a pastor in the Friendship Baptist Church of Atlanta as well as the college instructor of philosophy and religion.

Despite the family’s love to history and learning, Jasmine decided to find a fortune by becoming a dancer. When Guy turned 17, she moved to the New York City and started attending Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. Her first appearance on the television was at 1982 as a part of the dancing team in the TV show “Fame”. In 1986 she was lucky to appear in the episode of “The Equalizer” and “At Mother’s Request” in 1987. Right after that she received a role, which made her famous. She played Whitley Wayne in “A different World”. She won six NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

At the same time she appeared in movies “School Daze” (1988), “Runaway”(1989), and “Harlem Nights” (1989). In 1990 came out her first and only album called “Jasmine Guy”, which placed 143rd position on the US 200 Top Albums. She has also recorder three other singles that were commercially beneficial: “Try Me”, “Another Like My Lover” and “Just Want to Hold You”. Then she started appearing in numerous TV shows: Melrose Place (1995), Touched by an Angel (1995), and HBO’s Dead Like Me (2003).

An actress got married to the Terrence Duckett in 1998 and a year later they had their daughter Imany. They hoped their marriage would last longer, but unfortunately it lasted only a decade. Unfortunately, Jasmine had to go through the hurting divorce, fighting for the custody. As a result, Jasmine won the full custody over Imany.

In 2010 tabloids posted the information, that Guy was drug addicted, but actress was denying it ever since. Though her life had ups and downs, Guy has continued acting. She was taking part in shows My Parents, My Sisters, and Me” (2009), “Drop Dead Diva” (2010), “Let’s Stay Together” (2012) and on the “The Vampire Diaries”. Guy was taking part in the few films, such as the “Big Stone Gap”, a story that explores the life of Ave Maria Mulligan and her dedication to her community in the West Virginia. She was also working on “Irreconcilable” (2014), it’s a short film about a sober mother named Robye, who is finally ready to see her family again after battling terminal illness and addiction.

Even in her fifties actress remains young and flourishing. She deserves to play and make the viewers enjoy her acting talent!
