To this day, the On Our Own sitcom is what most people know Jazz for. It was a groundbreaking show because it featured an African American family on the ABC Network. ABC already had huge success with an African American family led show called Family Matters. They wanted to continue the trend with On Our Own. They hired comedian Ralph Louis Harris to play the father of the Smollett children. Even though the show did not enjoy a long run on the network, it is still remembered today for its at attempt at diversifying the television landscape. During that time period, most television shows only had white actors. Sitcoms ruled the airwaves as the most popular type of show format. The shows were very popular but there was a huge hole in roles for minority actors. Jazz is proud to be part of television history, no matter how small the impact was.

Jazz started getting into the film industry once her television roles started to end. She starred in the film I Want You which was produced by Lennox Jones. She was also a production manager for a film called Always With You which was produced by her husband, Troy. Jazz has been a hard working actress and producer, doing all she can to find work. She has even produced obscure films like The Reel Story: 12 years a Slave and In Silent Spaces. Not everyone can make a big splash in Hollywood and stay there on top. There are always a majority of players that the public doesn’t know about. Jazz had to grind and carve her own path because she wasn’t as famous as her peers.
