Lester was born to John and Kathie Lester and grew up in Tacoma. He attended Bellarmine Preparatory School, where his passion for sports, especially baseball, began to take shape. Demonstrating early talent on the school’s baseball team, he received the Gatorade State Player of the Year award for Washington in 2000 at the age of 16.

Major League Debut and Rise with the Boston Red Sox

Standing at 1.93 meters (6 feet 4 inches), Lester began his Major League Baseball career in 2006 with the Boston Red Sox. Showing immediate promise, he became a crucial member of the team. One of his most notable achievements was pitching the final game of the 2007 World Series, helping the Red Sox secure the championship.

Cancer Diagnosis and Recovery

Lester encountered a major health setback when he was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a rare and fast-spreading cancer of the lymphatic system. The disease was discovered during a medical evaluation for a persistent back injury. Fortunately, it was treatable. He underwent chemotherapy, during which he lost his hair and chose to shave his head completely. While recovering, Lester stayed active by biking and fishing, which aided his physical and mental well-being.

Return to Baseball and Personal Life

Lester made a successful return to baseball in 2007. To regain his form, he joined a rehabilitation team in Greenville, South Carolina, where he met his future wife, Farrah Stone Johnson. The couple married on January 9, 2009, and have two sons, Hudson and Walker.
