Josh Donaldson was born in Pensacola, Florida, and spent most of his childhood in Pace, Florida, where he attended Pace High School. During his sophomore year, he played varsity baseball before transferring, at his mother’s decision, to Faith Academy in Mobile, Alabama. While at Faith Academy, he excelled in multiple sports, including baseball, basketball, and football.
As a senior, Donaldson played both as a pitcher and a shortstop and was named Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year. That season, he posted a stellar batting average of .515 and contributed significantly to Faith Academy's run to the state title. He recorded 54 RBIs, 21 doubles, and six triples. In football, he served as a defensive back, punter, and wide receiver, setting a school record with 11 interceptions in a single season.
Donaldson went on to play college baseball at Auburn University, where he continued to build his reputation as a standout athlete. In the 2007 MLB Draft, he was selected in the first round (48th overall) by the Chicago Cubs, marking the start of his professional baseball journey.
After being drafted by the Cubs, Donaldson was later traded to the Oakland Athletics, where he made his MLB debut in 2010. He gradually became a key player for the A's and emerged as an All-Star during the 2014 MLB season.
