Judy Reyes was born on November 5, 1967, in the Bronx, New York, USA. Her parents were immigrants from the Dominican Republic. She spent her teenage years living on Bainbridge Avenue in the Bronx. Reyes has two siblings, including a twin sister and another sister. She pursued higher education at Hunter College in Manhattan, where she was introduced to acting and decided to pursue it as a career.

Early Career in Television
Reyes began her professional acting career in 1992 with a brief role in the television series Law & Order. She continued with small roles in several popular shows, including The Sopranos, NYPD Blue, and Nothing Sacred. Her first television movie, The Prosecutors, aired in 1996, followed by Mind Prey in 1999. Most of her early work in TV movies was produced for the Lifetime network.
Breakthrough with Scrubs
Reyes gained widespread recognition for her role as Nurse Carla Espinosa on the NBC medical comedy series Scrubs, which aired from 2001 to 2009. Her portrayal of the strong-willed and compassionate nurse earned her the ALMA Award for Outstanding Actress in a Television Series in 2006 and 2008, with additional nominations in 2002 and 2009. The show's popularity significantly elevated her profile in the television industry.

Outside of Scrubs, Reyes appeared in recurring roles on shows such as Oz, where she portrayed Tina Rivera.
