Kallen Esperian, an Armenian-American lyric soprano, was born on June 8, 1961, in Barrington, Illinois. She began studying ballet at the age of three and started piano lessons when she was ten years old. However, it wasn't until she turned sixteen that she began formal vocal training. Esperian went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Esperian’s professional operatic career was launched in 1985 when she won the prestigious Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition. Her operatic debut came the following year in 1986, when she performed as Mimì in Puccini's La Bohème in Philadelphia. She quickly gained recognition for her lyrical voice and dramatic expression.
Since her debut, Esperian has performed leading roles in many of the world’s major opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London, and La Scala in Milan.
