Modeling and Early Acting Training

While still in high school, Delaney was discovered by the Elite Modeling Agency. This opportunity introduced her to the entertainment industry and influenced her decision to pursue acting. After graduation, she relocated to New York City, where she studied acting under renowned coach William Esper. During this time, she supported herself by working as a model to cover living expenses.

Breakthrough Role on "All My Children"

At the age of 20, Kim Delaney landed her first major acting role as Jenny Gardner Nelson on the popular ABC daytime drama All My Children. Her portrayal of the youthful and innocent Jenny quickly won over viewers, and the role remains one of her most celebrated performances. She appeared on the show from 1981 to 1984, earning a Daytime Emmy Award nomination and building a devoted fan base. Her success on the show set the stage for a transition into film and primetime television work.

Marriage and Early Film Career

In 1984, Delaney married actor Charles Grant, though the couple divorced in 1988. Shortly thereafter, she married actor Joseph Cortese; the couple had a son together before separating. During this period, Delaney explored film opportunities. She appeared in That Was Then... This Is Now (1985), The Delta Force (1986), and Christmas Comes to Willow Creek (1987). She also held a brief role during the second season of L.A. Law. Following her divorce and birth of her son, Delaney returned to acting for financial stability, although many of her projects at the time received mixed to negative reviews from critics and audiences alike.
