She is of mixed heritage—her father, Peter Kreuk, is of Dutch descent, while her mother, Deanna Che, is of Chinese descent and was born in Indonesia. Kreuk first gained national attention with her role as Laurel Yeung in the Canadian teen drama Edgemont, which aired from 2001 to 2005.
