Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Born on December 10, 1985, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Meghan Linsey spent most of her childhood in Tangipahoa Parish. Her passion for music emerged at the early age of 14 when she began performing with a local band. She participated in various musical acts across Louisiana and Texas and eventually took the stage at the renowned Bluebird Café in Nashville. Performing at the Bluebird Café inspired her to pursue songwriting, drawing influence from fellow musicians who also showcased their talents there.

Career Development and Formation of Steel Magnolia

After relocating permanently to Nashville to advance her music career, Linsey earned a degree in music business from Belmont University. To support herself while continuing to perform and write music, she worked as a karaoke host at Lonnie’s Western Room in Nashville’s Printer’s Alley. It was there that she met Joshua Scott Jones. Together, they formed the country music duo Steel Magnolia.

Their big break came when they entered and won the second season of CMT’s music reality competition, Can You Duet, in 2009. Following their win, the duo signed with Big Machine Records. Their debut single, “Keep On Lovin’ You,” became one of the highest-charting debut singles in country music at the time, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The single sold over one million copies in combined album and digital downloads, helping the duo gain national exposure through television appearances.

Steel Magnolia released subsequent singles including “Just By Being You (Halo and Wings)” and others, all contributing to the commercial success of their self-titled debut album, released in 2011. The album entered the Billboard Country Albums Top Ten. They were scheduled to tour with Reba McEntire, but plans were altered when Joshua Scott Jones entered rehabilitation in 2011. During the tour, James Otto temporarily filled in for Jones.
