Born on December 10, 1985, in Ponchatoula situated in Louisiana, Meghan Linsey spent the better part of her childhood in Tangipahoa Parish situated in Ponchatoula. Her interest in music was ignited at a very young age of 14 years when she started doing shows with her band and later on went to work in several acts in Louisiana and Texas. Along with doing the shows around these areas, she also performed at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. It was while performing in Bluebird Cafe that she realised her potential as a songwriter. She began writing her songs inspired by her favourite musicians who also played at the Bluebird Cafe.
After shifting permanently to Nashville to pursue her music career, she graduated with a music business degree from the Belmont University and continued with performing in several shows and songwriting. She started working at Lonnie’s Western Room situated in Printer’s Alley, Nashville as a Karaoke host to earn money. It was at Lonnie’s Western Room that she met her ex-boyfriend Joshua Scott Jones, and they started working as the duo Steel Magnolia.
Her professional career began with the release of her debut album. This Is Now in the year 2002. After this, she along with her ex-boyfriend Joshua Scott Jones participated in the CMT’s music show Can You Duet and went on to wean the second season of the show. After their victory in the show, a lot of offers started pouring in for the duo. They signed a contract with the Big Machine Records and their first single Keep on Lovin’ You was released in the year 2009. Their debut single was the highest-charting debut single in the Country music history and was also listed in the top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart. Their single sold one million albums and downloads and the duo even appeared on several national television shows. They then went on to release the single Just By Being You and two more single which were also hits. Their first album was released in the year 2011 and was admitted in the Country’s Top Ten. The duo was scheduled to go on a tour with Reba McEntire but was prevented from doing so because of Joshua's drug issues. Joshua entered rehabilitation in 2011 and was filled in by James Otto during the tour.
The duo broke up in the year 2013, both professionally and personally. Megan then continued working on her music career. Her first single Counting Stars was released in December in the year 2013 after which she auditioned for NBC’s national level music contest The Voice in the year 2015. She was eliminated in the initial episodes of the show but was later brought back on the show and was mentored by Blake Shelton. She became the runner-up of that season.
