Mircea Lucescu

Mircea Lucescu was born on July 29, 1945 in Bucharest, Romania. There is no updated information about his parents and siblings.

Mircea Lucescu started to play professional football at Dinamo Bucharest and played his first game on 21 June 1963 against a traditional rival Rapid Bucharest, match with a victory for Dinamo 5-2. After 2 seasons at Dinamo when he played only in three games was sent in second Romanian league for 2 years and played for Stiinta Bucharest and Politehnica Bucharest. In 1967 came back to Dinamo and started a fruitful career for 10 years.

In this time played 247 games and scored for 57 times. In 1971, 1973, 1975 and 1977 was national champion with Dinamo and in 1968 won the Romanian cup. In 1977, he was transferred to Corvinul Hunedoara and played there for another 5 years where he finished his football player career. His last game as a player was after 7 years on 16th of May 1990 against Sportul Studentesc.

Although his player career was under his manager career. He became coach for first time in 1979 at Corvinul and succeed to promote in first league. After this, he was named the manager of national team and in 1984 participated in France at European Championship after he had defeated in qualifiers the entire world champion Italy.

Between 1985 and 1990 he was the manager of his first team Dinamo and was vice-champion for four times and finally in 1990 champion of Romania. In 1990 went to Italy and trained Pisa Brescia and Reggiana. He came back in Romania in 1998 at Rapid Bucharest and finished on second place in the Romanian first league. Next season he won the national title and left for Internationale Milano, where trained only for a few months and came back to Rapid.

Between 2000-2004 trained in Turkey Galatasaray and won 1 champion title and European SuperCup and Besiktas with whom won 2 titles and played quarters final of UEFA Cup. Since 2003, he has been the manager of Shakhtar Donetk and he already has won 2 awards of Ukrainian champion.

As to the personal life in his biography, he is married to Neli Lucescu. Mircea and his wife have a son Razvan. He is also a very good coach and he is training Rapid Bucharest. Lucescu is also known to be a very educated person. He learned six foreign languages at a young age: English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French and Russian in addition to his native Romanian.

As a coach in Romania, he was often cited as telling his players that going to the theatre or reading a book is far more beneficial than going to restaurants. He also pressured his players to go to university. On 15 July 2009, he suffered an attack of pre-infarct angina, and was operated in an emergency hospital in Donetsk. On 6 January 2012, he was involved in a road accident in Bucharest and was seriously hurt. His net worth and salary is about 13.5 million.
