Monica Dean is a Romanian television presenter, model, and actress. She was a well acclaimed television anchor before starting her career as actress in 2004. She has appeared in several notable films and television shows.

Personal

Born in Romania on 12th December 1978, Monica Birladeanu (Monica Dean) did her early schooling in Romania. She had initially wanted to become a kindergarten teacher, but changed her mind and joined law school instead. She graduated in law from the Lasi University. During her University days, she took on part time jobs as promoter for several companies and also worked as a waitress. When she landed in an advertisement for a lingerie catalogue, she became a popular figure locally. She has also won many beauty pageant awards and had a contract with a modeling agency in Bucharest.

Profession

While studying in college, she was selected in an audition for news TV Channel, B1TV. Her first show on television was La Strada, which focused on teenagers. Its popularity made her a recognized face nationally. She then did covers for various magazines and also did interviews. In a short period of time, she anchored her own daily TV show that ran for thirty minutes. She also hosted the shows Extravaganza and Viata in Direct.

Movie Career

Monica Dean took acting classes in Los Angeles and also improved her skills as TV anchor. In 2004, she got her first break in films with the comedy flick ‘Buds for Life’. The Death of Mister Lazarescu is the first Romanian movie she acted in. It received over 30 awards, which also include the ‘Uncertain regard’ award at Cannes in 2005, the Silver Hugo award in Chicago, and also a nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards in the year 2005. She has acted in over 13 films since 2004.

Recognition

She was designated as the Sexiest celebrity by Viva magazine and as The Sexiest TV Star by TV Mania In 2004.  Earlier in 2002, she was voted the most beautiful Romanian celebrity in the Beau Monde magazine. Viva magazine also crowned her as ‘The most beautiful Romanian Woman’ in 2003, and she was selected as the Sexiest Woman by FHM magazine the same year. She has anchored the series ‘Extravacanza’ and in the year 2004, she worked as anchor for the show ‘Viata in Direct’.

Monica Dean also acted in Television shows. She had a recurring role in the show Lost as Gabriella Busoni, a wealthy Italian woman. In 2006, she was in the 74th rank of the Top Capital 100 Most Successful Women in Romania.
