Early Life and Background

Philip Hansen Anselmo, born on June 30, 1968, in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a renowned American musician best known as the former lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Pantera. He grew up in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie and attended various schools before graduating from Grace King High School. During his youth, Anselmo worked at his father's restaurant and held several other jobs, including fishing. Interviews describe him as having been a relatively introverted child.

Introduction to Music and Pantera

Anselmo developed an interest in singing during his teenage years. He first gained recognition in the local music scene with the band Samhain—not to be confused with the Glenn Danzig-led group of the same name.
