Richard Engel

Richard Engel was born in the year 1973 and he is an author and a journalist of American origins.  He is foreign correspondent for the NBC News. He was given the position in April 2008. Before he was the Middle East Correspondent and was the Bureau chief for Beirut. He was the first recipient of the Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism and it was given because of his reports in the War Zone Diary.  Before choosing to join the NBC news in 2003, he was in charge of covering the Iraq war in Baghdad under ABC News but he was working like a freelance journalist.  He is able to read and to speak Arabic and he is fluent in Spanish and Italian. He has written the book called A Fist in The Homet’s Nest and it was about how he covered the war in Iraq when he was based in Baghdad. His latest book is called War Journal: My Five Years in Iraq and it was published in 2008 and it is the sequel of the first book since it picks where it left off.  He is known to be in charge of covering the Syrian Civil War, Arab Spring and Iraq war.

From the Richard Engel’s bio, he grew up in New York City, in Manhattan area.  His older brother works as a cardiologist. His father is known as Peter and he is an ex Goldman Sachs Financier and his mother is called Nina and has an antiques store. He feared about the future of his son since he was suffering dyslexia. The mother has Swedish descent.  He went to Riverdale Country School and this is a competitive college-prep school and afterwards he continued his studies in Stanford University and he was working on some articles for Stanford Daily. He worked for a year at CNN Business News based in New York. He graduated with a BA in the international relationship in 1996. Richard Engel married his girlfriend in Stanford but they divorced in the year 2005. In May, 2015, he married again producer Mary Forrest. From the second marriage he has a son.

His salary had not been disclosed but net worth is estimated to be over 4 million dollars. He is handsome, smart and slim build. He likes to have his hair short. He has more than 20 years of experience in working in the reporting industry. Even if his salary is not disclosed, it is expected that it is a good salary. While in Syria, together with his crew members had been kidnapped. When they are kept captive, they have been tortured psychologically.  They were released after 5 days. In that period, NBC News issued a blackout about all the news about him to ensure his safety.  His work in Egypt can be found on the blog of MSNBC’s World. He was the only journalist who was left behind to report about Iraq war.
