Richard Hammond is an English presenter, writer, and journalist best known for co-hosting the BBC television show Top Gear. Richard Hammond was born on December 19, 1969, in Solihull, Warwickshire. Richard Hammond attended Harrogate College of Art and Technology and worked for several BBC radio stations before auditioning for Top Gear. Hammond, sometimes referred to as “The Hamster” by his fans, was involved in a high speed accident while filming for Top Gear in September of 2006. Hammond was driving a jet-powered car when the tire blew out and he crashed while travelling at two hundred eighty eight miles per hour.
The vehicle was theoretically capable of traveling at speeds up to three hundred seventy miles per hour. Hammond published a book entitled On The Edge: My Story that details the immediate aftermath of the crash and first hand accounts of the ensuing troubles suffered by Hammond and his family. Hammond has been married to Amanda “Mindy” Hammond, a columnist for the Daily Express, since May of 2002. The couple has two daughters. The family lives in a mock castle in Herefordshire, where the family enjoys a country style life, as well as having an apartment in London and Saint-Tropez.
