In mid-2011, Marsh was selected for Australia's Test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. He made his Test debut in September, scoring a remarkable 141 runs in his maiden innings and contributing to a 258-run partnership—a milestone moment marking his arrival on the international stage.
However, consistency proved elusive. During the home Test series against India in 2011–2012, Marsh struggled with form, managing only 17 runs across four matches. As a result, he was dropped from the national Test team and did not return until 2016. This period marked a testing phase in his international career, despite his earlier success.
Marsh found significant success in the Twenty20 format. In the 2012–13 Big Bash League (BBL) season, he played for the Perth Scorchers and delivered strong performances, scoring five half-centuries in just nine innings. As the team’s leading run scorer, he played a crucial role in helping the Scorchers reach the final.
Despite his contributions, Marsh was briefly dropped from the squad due to a disciplinary issue reportedly linked to attending his brother Mitchell’s birthday party during the tournament. Nevertheless, his reputation as one of Australia’s top T20 batsmen remained intact.
Shaun Marsh is married to Rebecca O'Donovan, a journalist with Channel 7. The couple had been in a long-term relationship before getting married. Marsh has generally chosen to keep his personal life private and has rarely appeared in interviews or television talk shows. His net worth has not been publicly disclosed.
