Shoshanna Lonstein 

Early Life and Education

Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss was born on May 29, 1975, in Manhattan, New York. She is the daughter of Zach Lonstein, the former Chief Executive Officer of Infocrossing. Raised in New York City, Shoshanna attended the Nightingale-Bamford School, a prestigious private school for girls.

In 1993, after graduating from high school, she enrolled at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The following year, she transferred to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she completed her studies in 1997 with a double bachelor’s degree in history and art history.

Entrance into the Fashion Industry

Despite her academic background in the humanities, Shoshanna maintained a strong interest in fashion throughout her life. Toward the late 1990s, she decided to pursue a career in the fashion industry. Initially gaining experience at a lingerie manufacturing firm, she soon took a bold step forward in 1998 by launching her own fashion label, Shoshanna, with financial support from her father.

The brand was notable for its inclusive design approach, offering clothing tailored to suit a variety of body types. This focus quickly distinguished the label within the highly competitive women’s fashion market.

Brand Expansion and Collaborations

In the early 2000s, Shoshanna expanded her brand to include swimwear, a move that met with commercial success. Following the birth of her daughter in 2005, she introduced a children's swimwear line, further diversifying her product offerings.

In August 2010, she partnered with jewelry designer Judith Ripka to create a collaborative jewelry line sold through QVC. Prior to that, in 2009, she launched a special swimwear collection titled "Made with Love" alongside her friend and fellow designer Charlotte Ronson. These ventures highlighted Shoshanna's versatility as a designer and savvy businesswoman.

Business Roles and Philanthropy

Beginning in 2013, Shoshanna took on the role of Style Director, spokesperson, and design adviser for the beauty brand Elizabeth Arden, Inc. She also contributed to initiatives such as Save the Garment Center and worked with Century 21 Department Stores to design vibrant, awareness-raising T-shirts in support of the New York fashion industry.

Outside of her primary business, she served as a guest contributor for Gap Inc. and made media appearances, including on television programs like America’s Next Top Model and the satirical movie Death of a Dynasty.
