Broadcast Career Beginnings

Christian began his broadcasting career at WWBT in Richmond, Virginia, where he worked as a news reporter focusing on state and local politics. In 1975, he moved to WBAL-TV in Baltimore, Maryland, beginning his tenure as a weather forecaster.

Rise to National Prominence on Good Morning America

In 1977, Spencer Christian joined WABC-TV in New York City. While there, he served as both a weatherman and sportscaster for the station’s Eyewitness News program until 1986. That year, he was tapped to become the weather forecaster for ABC’s national morning show, Good Morning America—a role he held until 1998. His approachable demeanor, quick wit, and active involvement in community events made him a well-liked media personality.

Apart from broadcasting, Christian co-authored several educational children's books.
