It all started in 2013 when Tarek was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. Christina was trying to become pregnant but, they found out that he also had testicular cancer. Christina tried out in vitro fertilization but she suffered a miscarriage in 2014. Later, they had a son and by that time, the pressure was very heavy on their marital life. They were expected to be back to work within four weeks from birth and this led to a lot of bickering.
During their show, it was rumored that Tarek insulted his wife with verbal attacks. When asked about this incident, he mentioned that he did not want to talk about what happened and he mentioned that they would stay together and co-parent for the sake of the two children.
The main reason for the divorce was Tarek’s suicidal attack with a gun. Police received a call from his house stating that Tarek was threatening with a gun after a heated argument between Tarek and Christina. He was seen running from his home with a gun and he dropped it off when police instructed him to do so. He mentioned that he did not mean any harm and just wanted it for his protection. He mentioned that it was all a misunderstanding. This was the beginning of the legal divorce proceedings. They took up counseling for a few months and announced their separation, by the end of the year. Co-stars spotted them taking two different cars to the set. Christina would spend her time inside her car during the breaks to avoid her husband.
Tarek requested spousal support and joint custody. At the beginning of 2017, Christina was spotted with her boyfriend. Within a few weeks later, Tarek was spotted with a woman in California, for a weekend visit. People saw them having dinner together and driving off, in the same car.
