Toby Stephens

Toby Stephens was born on 21st April 1969 in London to Sir Robert Stephens and Dame Maggi Smith. He spent his childhood in London and graduated from Aldro and Seaford College. He is known to have a stepmother Patricia Quinn and a younger stepbrother Quinn Hawkins. He was taught at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). On 15 September 2001, he married Anna-Louise Plowman. He and his wife are now the proud parents of three children, a son Eli Alistair Stephens born in 2007; and two daughters Tallulah born in 2009 and Kura born in 2010.

According to his biography, his promising career began at the Chichester Festival Theatre as a stagehand, and the turning point for his acting career was when he debuted as Othello in 1992 for Sally Poter’s Orlando.

Since then he has come a long way. He was well appreciated for his performance in Coriolanus and even recieved an award for it. He continued acting in several movies of the Royal Shakespeare Company like `A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, `Anthony and Cleopatra’, `All’s Well that Ends Well’ etc to name a few.

In 2004 he acted in various movies like `A Streetcar Named Desire’ and Hamlet. He also acted at the Aldwych Theatre for the production of Peter Hall’s `Tartuffe’ and a broadway play `Ring Round the Moon’. After his debut he had been cast as a lead in several movies whcih includes his lead roles in Photographing Fairies and Twelfth Night as Orsino. But his most famous role till date remains Gustav Graves in the James Bond Film Die Another Day for which he even became the youngest Bond villian ever. He also played several roles for BBC including Edward Rochester in the adaptation of Jane Eyre and General Armstrong Custer in Custer’s Last Stand. He was also cast as the lead in a U.S Television show `Inseparable’ which was produced by Shaun Cassidy. Prince John in season 3 of Robin Hood, Strike Back, A view From the Bridge and The Camomile Lawn are some of his televison appearances.

He also worked on various Radio Drama and audio books which include Macbeth in 1999, As you like it in 1997, The Troy Trilogy in 1998, The Lifted Veil in 1997, Time and The Conways in 1994, The Prince’s Choice in 1995, Anna Karenina in 1997, King Lear in 2001, On the road in 2001, Birdsong in 1997, etc. to name a few.

In his professional career he has won several recognition and awards for his potrayals. He won the best actor in Sir John Gielgud Prize. For his portrayal of the title role in Coriolanus, he won the Ian Charleson Award in 1994 as the best classical actor under 30. He also won Second Prize in Ian Charleson Award for All’s Well That Ends Well in 1992. For his role in Ring Round the Moon he won the theatre World Award in 1999. According to his biography, his net worth is expected to be around $22,000,000.
