After his high school, he went to the University of Oklahoma where he played for the university team. In 2006 he started to play with the team at the right position as an offensive tackler. In his first season, he scored 462 snaps and also had 75 knockdowns. In the later years, he got his game to even higher standards and started performing to his ability. In 2008 he started in all the games played by his team and had a very big hand in the team's performance during his college days.

In 2010 he was added in the NFL draft to be auctioned. He was signed by Washington Redskins for a reported sum of $60 million on a six-year contract giving him one of the highest salary in the game. He was on the bench for the most of the game in the first season as opportunities were hard to come by. He started his game in the first week itself but later couldn't get much game time.

In the next year, he got more game time as some of his teammates were disqualified and banned for four games due to the drug test that the couldn't pass. He, however, couldn’t play further as he went through an injury and had to withdraw from the game for a couple of months. He has had some controversy as well as once he was fined for hitting an opponent in the face. He also had a nightclub brawl that led to a ban imposed on him for a couple of games. In 2014 he was voted as the 60th best player in the league.

He is currently very popular and so he gets some commercial to work in. His new house has been under construction for quite some time and would be a sight to see when it gets completed. He is very popular in social media as well. He posts regular pictures on his social media account at Instagram as well as on twitter. He is known as Silverback which is derived from the Silverback gorilla. He is a fan of the animal and also owns many gorilla arts as well as has a gorilla tattoo at his back.
