Education

Derbyshire was a brilliant lady that loved school and also performed with excellence. She went to Bury Gramma School, where she successfully finished her high school studies and got great grades to take her to a good college. Afterwards, Victoria joined the University of Liverpool, where she undertook studies in the English language as well as literature in general.

After graduating with good grades from the Liverpool University, Victoria could not stop her studies at that point. She was very determined to do more and better her knowledge. Besides, her passion to pursue journalism was calling and she just had to honor it. For this reason, Derbyshire joined the then Preston Polytechnic to pursue a post-graduate diploma in radio and TV journalism. The polytechnic has since been renamed Journalism, Media and Communication, University of Central Lancashire.

Career life and experience

Victoria Derbyshire has a vigorous academic background which has made her earn her way through the media industry, not to mention her ambition and hard work. Like any other famous person, Victoria started at a lower rank, not where she is today. She once worked as a radio reporter in an undisclosed local radio station.

Her performance was excellence and later on in the year 1998, she was hired at the BBC Radio 5 Live station. She started off  in that radio station as a co-presenter with Julian Worricker in the breakfast show. Their program excelled and won two Gold Sony Awards in the year 1998 and again in 2002. They continued performing really well.

In the year 2003, Julian Worricker left the breakfast show for a maternity leave. Derbyshire was consequently  given a new co-reporter, who happened to be Nicky Campbell. After Julian’s maternity leave, she did not return to the show but was assigned at the morning news program from August 2004.

Derbyshire has done well in the screens and has a wide range of experience working as a television news reporter as well as on a number of  political programs. She was the presenter of  Newsnight and often made guest appearances on This Week, which is an interview series BBC News Channel.

Besides that, Victoria has her own interview series on BBC called Victoria Derbyshire Interviews. She also appeared on the Watchdog. Apart from presenting on news and interviews, Victoria has also presented sports chat show on Channel 4, which airs on Saturday mornings.

Since joining the 5 Live, Victoria covered interesting global stories such as the  9/11 attacks, the Paris Concorde Crash, general elections news, sports on World Cups and even a number of  Olympic Games.

Her program has made her more famous by being the first show to air live in Zimbabwe, at a tensed time when President Mugabe rubbed the restrictions set on international journalists in the country. The program also made radio history after being the first to ever air live from an abortion clinic in the year 2012, and consequently from an animal testing laboratory in the same year.

Derbyshire is always keeping her pace high and in October 2011, she  made her first appearance on Have I Got News for You. Yet again in the year 2013 Derbyshire started to present on Newsnight from time to time under the new Ian Katz, while still presenting her 5 Live program every day. Victoria’s last Radio 5 Live program broadcast was on 5th  September 2014.
