Butch Hartman is an American animator and voice actor who is perhaps best known for creating the animated television series, The Fairly Odd Parents. The series aired on Nickelodeon from 2001 to 2017 and chronicled the adventures of ten year old Timmy Turner and his two fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda. Butch Hartman was born Elmer Earl Hartman IV on January 10, 1965, in Highland Park, Michigan. Butch was the eldest of four boys and grew up in Roseville, Michigan. He attended Anchor Bay High School in New Baltimore before going on to attend the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. During the 1990s Hartman worked for Hanna-Barbera as an artist and as a writer, director, and storyboard artist for the Cartoon Network; where he worked on the shows Dexter’s Laboratory and Johnny Bravo.
In 2017, Hartman started a podcast entitled Speech Bubble in which he discusses cartoons and pop culture, often interviewing voice actors such as Grey Griffin and Jerry Trainor. Butch Hartman is married and has two daughters, Carly Hartman and Sophia Hartman. Hartman is a devout Christian and in 2005 he founded the Hartman House; a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting poverty both in the United States and internationally.
