Gary Wayne Vernon, Jr, better known as Gary LeVox, was born to American parents in Columbus, Ohio on July 10, 1970. Being raised in Ohio, Gary had no idea that he would eventually become a highly talented and accomplished singer and songwriter and the lead vocalist of Rascal Flatts' multi-award-winning American country band. He had a great love for music from an early age. He and his cousin frequently participated in family jam band sessions.

He got a chance to display his musical talent on a larger stage for the first time at the age of eight when he gave his first musical performance at his local church. He was an intelligent child with a deep sense of music. Gary LeVox attended Olentangy High School and then enrolled at Ohio State University after his high school graduation.

Before finding his true calling and making it big in the music industry, LeVox was employed at the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.

Encouraged by his cousin, LeVox moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 1997 to pursue his rock star dreams. Along with his cousin, he became a member of Chely Wright's band. LeVox joined hands with his second cousins Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, and together the trio formed the country band Rascal Flatts.
