Lisa Kerney was born Lisa Diane Gangel. Her parents are named Lou and Barbara Gangel. 

As a child Lisa always wanted to be a broadcaster. She would go around her family home giving interviews to each of her siblings and parents, pretending to be a broadcaster for ESPN. 

During an interview with The Kansas City Star, Lisa and her parents, Lou and Barbara Gangel spoke about her childhood hobby and passion for becoming a broadcaster. She says: “I used to always take a hairbrush or a Popsicle, and we would videotape each other, I would always be the one asking interview questions. This is when I was 6 or 7 years old, and I was interviewing my siblings about made-up sports games in the backyard or the driveway. No one else was in charge of the microphone. It was always me.”

Even Lisa's mother Barbara knew about her daughters calling to sports broadcasting. She recounted during the interview about how her Lisa would interview kids from around the neighborhood pretending to be sports stars. Lisa's mother Barbara was quoted as saying: “Any sport you could think of, she would get them to pretend they were doing and she would interview them on it. But I never thought that would turn into a career. I really didn’t.”

All the while Barbara wasn't sure it would turn into a career, Lisa was very much sure of it. She says during the interview, “I’m that lucky kid that knew from the time I was teeny tiny what I wanted to do,” she said. “Somehow, it worked out. To have other people think that I’m not too shabby at it is really a huge blessing, and I’ve really been incredibly fortunate to get to do what I love to do.”

Lisa's father, Lou Gangel spoke about how happy he is about his daughters success. He said, “It’s actually pretty exciting. We’ve got a lot of friends and she’s got a lot of friends who have known her from high school and college. We talked to them from time to time and they’ll say, ‘Oh, I saw Lisa on TV.’ It makes you proud, because she’s done so well.”

Clearly Lisa has come a long way and has the full support of her family and friends behind her. Everyone is so proud of how far she has come and how hard she has worked to achieve the level of success she has thus far. 

Studies

She attended the Lynn University, a private institution, in Boca Raton, Florida. While she was attending the university, she was part of the women’s basketball team, the Fighting Knights. In fact, she was the captain and point guard of the team. From the Lynn University, she got her major in broadcast communications. Before her graduation, she got at internship in Kansas City, Missouri for the Time Warner Cable Metro Sports, a Time Warner Cable sports cable channel. She graduated in May 2004 with a bachelor's degree, and in 2016 she came back to her college to give a commencement address to the students. 

First Job

Her first work experience was with a Columbia Broadcasting System affiliate in Button, Montana. The television station in question is the KXLF. She then worked as a sports anchor during the weekends for ING-TV, a television station based in Seattle, Washington, for ten years starting in 2005. During that period of time she also worked for The Jim Mora Show, where she was in charge of the national highlight segment. Also, she hosted the Northwest Sports Tonight.

After leaving ING-TV in 2010, she started to work for MLB Network, also known as the Major League Baseball Network. This is a cable channel that is of course owned by the Major League Baseball. During her time working there she was a sports reporter and a contributor there.
